Moldavite at a glance

Moldavite is a green natural impact glass associated with a meteorite-impact event in Central Europe. It belongs to the tektite family and is valued for its colour, sculpted surfaces and geological story.

Material context

Natural specimens can range from translucent olive and bottle green to darker tones. Surface form depends on transport and weathering; cut and polished pieces look different from raw material. Colour, bubbles and texture are clues, not proof of authenticity.

A species or trade-name record describes a material category. It does not establish the identity, treatment, locality, condition, dimensions or authenticity of an individual object offered for sale.

How to assess an actual object

Moldavite is widely imitated. Authenticity should be based on experienced examination, trustworthy supplier records and, where value warrants it, independent gemmological or laboratory evidence. A certificate is meaningful only when it can be tied to the exact piece.
