Crystal Codex · Forms
Shape changes use.
Not inherent truth.
A practical guide to rough specimens, tumbles, points, towers, spheres, carvings, bracelets and jewellery—how form affects handling, display, care and purchase decisions.
Form families
Choose for how the object will live.
Scale, stability, fragility, exact-piece identity and care often matter more than a generic meaning attached to the shape.
Natural or minimally worked specimens
Rough surfaces preserve more of the material’s original habit and matrix. Expect sharp edges, fragile points, dust risk and greater variation.
Small polished stones
Tumbling rounds edges and creates a tactile, portable form. Exact size and shape can vary widely within representative stock.
Standing directional forms
Natural points and manufactured towers should be distinguished. Check base stability, repaired tips, coating, height and weight before display.
Rounded display objects
These forms show pattern continuously but can roll and fall. Use an appropriate stand and protect glassy or heavy objects from impact.
Manufactured decorative forms
Carving, adhesive, inserts, coatings and painted details can change care requirements. Do not infer natural composition from every decorative element.
Objects made for the body
Metal, chain inclusion, bead size, wrist fit, cord condition and weight become part of the material record—not secondary details.
Before choosing a form
Five practical checks.
The right form is the one whose scale, care and use fit the person and place.
- Exact or representative?
- Unique pattern and formation require exact-piece photography. Repeated forms can use representative stock when variation is stated.
- Stable or mobile?
- Heavy, pointed and rounded objects need secure placement. Small pieces require child and pet safety.
- Natural or manufactured?
- A natural crystal point, cut tower, bonded cluster and decorative composite are materially different objects.
- What care changes?
- Polish, metal, elastic, adhesive, coating and porous surfaces can each add a distinct care requirement.
- What is included?
- Confirm stands, chains, cords, holders, bags, inserts and pack quantities rather than relying on photography alone.
A form can carry visual and personal symbolism. That does not make it a medical device, protective tool or guaranteed way to direct an unseen force.
