Labradorite at a glance

Labradorite is a feldspar known for labradorescence: coloured flashes that appear as light interacts with internal structures at particular viewing angles.

Material context

The flash can appear blue, green, gold, violet or multicoloured, while the base material may look grey, dark or pale. A dramatic photograph often depends on angle and lighting, so exact-piece listings should show more than one view.

A species or trade-name record describes a material category. It does not establish the identity, treatment, locality, condition, dimensions or authenticity of an individual object offered for sale.

How to assess an actual object

Terms such as “blue Labradorite” or “purple Labradorite” usually describe the observed flash rather than a separate species. Treatment, origin and quality grades should be explicitly documented rather than inferred from colour.

Care and practical use
